The Dragonfly Experience

What to Expect During Your Dragonfly MRI

A whole-body MRI may feel unfamiliar, but the visit itself is straightforward. Here is how Dragonfly guides you from preparation through your scan, report, and results consultation.

Dragonfly was designed around a simple idea: getting a clearer picture of your health should feel calm, private, and well explained. The technology is sophisticated, but you should never feel like you are navigating the process alone.

Before your scan

Before your appointment, you will complete a safety questionnaire and medical intake form. These help the clinical and radiology teams understand your health history and identify implants, devices, or other factors that need to be reviewed before you enter the MRI room.

Dragonfly asks guests to fast for four hours before scanning. On scan day, beverages should be limited to water, tea, or black coffee. Plan to arrive about 30 minutes before your scheduled time so the team can check you in, review your forms, answer questions, and help you change into scan-safe clothing. Jewelry, watches, and other metallic items must be removed.

If you are concerned about anxiety or claustrophobia, raise it during your pre-scan conversation. The team can explain the scanner, discuss comfort measures, and review whether additional support may be appropriate for you.

During your scan

A Dragonfly MRI is noninvasive and does not use ionizing radiation or intravascular contrast dye. Depending on the scan you choose, imaging generally takes about 30 to 60 minutes. MRI coils are positioned around the areas being examined so the scanner can capture the detailed images the radiologist will review.

The scanner makes rhythmic humming and thumping sounds. Dragonfly provides hearing protection, and available entertainment options can help the time pass more comfortably. A blanket and other comfort measures are available, and the room temperature can be adjusted.

Your MRI technologist monitors you throughout the scan. You can communicate through the two-way intercom whenever you need assistance. The most important thing you can do is remain as still as possible while each series of images is collected.

“There was no pressure to it. It was real easy. It was relaxing and calming.”

After your scan

Once imaging is complete, you can change and continue with your day. Your images are reviewed by a radiologist, and Dragonfly generally delivers the written report within seven business days. Timing can occasionally vary when additional review is needed.

Your booking includes a results consultation with a member of the clinical team. This is your opportunity to ask questions and understand which findings, if any, should be discussed with your physician. You can share the report with your own doctor, or authorize Dragonfly to forward it.

A screening MRI is not a diagnosis and does not replace emergency care, routine medical visits, or condition-specific testing. Its role is to provide a broad internal view and identify findings that may deserve a closer look.

Clarity without the clinical maze

You do not need a physician referral to request a Dragonfly preventive screening. The team can help you compare the available scan options, understand current pricing, and decide what questions to discuss with your healthcare provider.

The goal is not fear or drama. It is useful information, explained clearly and handled with care.
